For people and their assistants

# Prepare an inquiry. Send it with permission.

An AI assistant can help describe your project and contact 1968 Labs on your behalf. You stay in control of what is shared and whether work goes ahead.

## Start with the business outcome.

Tell us what should work differently: a supplier catalog that carries parts into quote requests, a clearer website, or an inquiry workflow that needs less copying. Include your current website, useful examples, timing and a budget range if you have one. Please do not send passwords, customer records or confidential drawings.

Websites start at $4,500 USD; AI automation starts at $3,500 USD. A focused improvement to an existing site is quoted after review. Small tasks may suit a 24–48-hour delivery window once scope, access and inputs are agreed; complete websites follow the timeline in the written proposal. An inquiry is not an order or agreement to pay.

## Choose the simplest way to contact us.

Use our [contact form](https://1968labs.com/contact?source=%2Fresources%2Fagent-inquiry-guide) or email [hello@1968labs.com](mailto:hello@1968labs.com). No signup is needed. We ask for a name, email, phone number and message so we can respond. An assistant must ask you for missing details rather than inventing them.

## For an agent submitting a brief

1. Read the [services and starting prices](https://1968labs.com/services) and confirm that our scope fits.
2. Prepare the exact brief and contact details. Validate it without sending by using `mode: validate`.
3. Show the person what will be shared with 1968 Labs and obtain their approval.
4. Submit the approved brief with `submitted_by: agent` and `authorized: true`.
5. Report the actual result. A provider receipt confirms acceptance for email delivery, not arrival in our inbox, a quote or a booking.

## The submission contract

Send `GET /api/enquiry` with `Accept: application/json` to read the current machine-readable contract. Submit JSON with `POST /api/enquiry`, `Content-Type: application/json` and `Accept: application/json`.

| Field | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| name, email, phone, message | Required. Name up to 120 characters, email up to 200, phone up to 40 with at least 7 digits, message up to 3,000. |
| business | Optional business name or website, up to 200 characters. Do not put it in company; that is a browser spam-control field. |
| need, intent, source\_page | Optional service, project stage and public page path. See the contract for allowed choices. Do not include personal details in a URL. |
| mode | validate checks the brief without sending. submit sends it and is the default. |
| submission\_id | An optional opaque identifier: 8–80 letters, digits, hyphens or underscores. Keep the same ID and exact brief for a retry; use a new ID when changing the brief. |

## Understand the response.

- **200 / validated:** the fields pass validation. Nothing was sent or stored.
- **202 / accepted:** the email provider accepted the inquiry. Keep requestId and submissionId. We do not offer a public status lookup.
- **400:** correct the fields before retrying. Unknown JSON fields are rejected to avoid silently losing details.
- **409:** a submission ID was reused with different details. Use a new ID for a changed brief.
- **503 / unconfirmed:** delivery could not be confirmed. The provider may have received the previous attempt. Retry the same details or email us and mention the earlier attempt.

Duplicate protection lasts for the email provider’s 24-hour window. Without a submission ID, identical normalized inquiries receive the same key. After 24 hours, a retry can send another email. Keep the user’s brief until confirmation; do not describe this interface as a durable request database.

We normally reply within 24 hours. The next step is a conversation and a written proposal. Scope, access, final price and any third-party costs are agreed before work starts.
